Manufacturing Institute gets Gates Foundation grant

The Manufacturing Institute has been awarded a $1.5 million grant to comprehensively plan and implement educational programs in community colleges to prepare students, particularly low-income young adults and transitioning workers, with entry-level skills necessary to succeed in advanced manufacturing careers.  Shoreline CC is one of four pilots.

$1.2 billion for summer jobs / Stimulus funds provide job training for disadvantaged young adults

… In Spokane, which is receiving $1.8 million, participants will get time on the job, as well as in the classroom. Those without high school diplomas will study for their GEDs, while working part-time. Those who finished school will split their summer on the job and in an education program, such as vocational training at a community college., May 27, 2009
