WSU's Yakima center likely to close
Barring a significant public outcry, Washington State University is proposing to close its Yakima Academic Center as part of deep cuts under the austere, two-year budget facing the state. WSU-Yakima is in the Deccio Higher Education Center, which opened in 2003 at Yakima Valley Community College.

No Community College Left Behind
With President Obama talking a big game about boosting support for community colleges, some educators have released a specific plan to do so in an ambitious way. Thursday, the Brookings Institution’s Metropolitan Policy Program released a report chock-full of recommendations for the federal government to bolster its commitment to the country’s community colleges and help transform them into “engines of opportunity and prosperity.”

Staying on the Job
A survey released by TIAA-CREF on Thursday confirms anecdotal evidence that many professors are indeed pushing back their plans for retirement. The data suggest that colleges may need to provide more incentives for retirements, or see far fewer people leave.
