Centell Jackson, the Associated Student Government’s event coordinator, organized the event with the help of the Bates Associated Student Government executive board.  … “Four-year colleges and community colleges have sports teams, and I thought this was a great way for technical colleges to get involved in the sports community,” said Jackson, who is also a student in Bates’ marketing and business management program.

Actions show Legislature is less transparent than in previous years
The policy center, a conservative think tank with offices in Olympia and Seattle, has finished its study of the 2010 Legislature and discovered significant abuses:

 • Routine canceling of legislative rules requiring five-day notice before holding a hearing on a bill.

 • Inadequate notice of the time, room number and subject matter of public hearings.

 • Voting on bills the same day details were made available to the public.

 • Holding public hearings on bills with no text. Lawmakers foolishly voted for ghost or title only bills without any idea what those bills would eventually say.
