Budding Engineers Complete Clear Creek Bridge
It took three years to plan, but volunteers only needed a little more than a week to construct the newest bridge along the northwestern portion of the Clear Creek Trail in Silverdale. … It’s been a long time coming,” said Kevin Alexander, an engineering student at Olympic College who helped with bridge design and construction. “We’ve been through a long planning stage.” The group of OC students responsible for the bridge are also members of the national volunteer organization Engineers Without Borders-USA.

There's no mystery about Kestrel Vintners
Kestrel’s most famous wine is called Lady in Red and is distinctive for the drawing of a voluptuous model who mildly resembles Marilyn Monroe. As the story goes, Kestrel was looking to market an affordable red that could be easily identified on grocery store shelves. A marketing class at Columbia Basin College in Pasco designed the bottle, and Lady in Red is now Kestrel’s best-selling wine.

EdCC wants reading tutors
Edmonds Community College is looking for literacy volunteers, offering free training to people who will help adults improve their reading skills. The Volunteer Literacy program, which provides tutoring to adults in the college’s ESL, GED, and Basic Education programs, needs more reading tutors.

How to go from ‘You’re fired’ to 'You're hired'
Worker retraining has been one of Lower Columbia College’s largest growing departments because unemployment in Cowlitz County has remained stubbornly high around 12 percent, said Jim McLaughlin, LCC president. The college has a full-time equivalent enrollment of 3,850 students, which is overbooked by 2,500 - the highest of all community colleges in the state, he said.
