Community colleges: Praise is fine, but also send money
"We are faced with a real challenge. Over the last three years our enrollment has increased about 12 percent while our budget has decreased 16 percent," said [Seattle] community college chancellor Dr. Jill Wakefield. … "The students smiled today not because they got all the courses they wanted, but because they got in. Right now, it is particularly difficult. We have about 1,200 students on our waiting list, and classes are full," said Gary Oertli of South Seattle Community College.

While enrollment has gone up, state funding has decreased more than 20 percent.

Child care on community college campuses is harder to find, report says
… And most of these child care centers had waiting lists - 90 percent maintained lists and an average center had 90 children on its wait list, the report says. Child care support declined, even though more than one in four, 27 percent, of community college students are parents, and roughly one in six, 16 percent, are single parents. When I covered stories about job training, unemployment or the direction of the economy, I sometimes talked with parents on their way to or from child care on community college campuses.
