Gifts from the Earth Update / Celebrity chef roster finalized for annual South Seattle Community College food and wine event.

It’s the can’t-miss event of the year, as the region’s celebrity chefs create their own menus and prepare a multi-course gourmet feast for two tables (10 guests per table) each. CBC fares poorly in teaching remedial math

Math is difficult -- or at least hard to teach to students who aren't ready for college. That's according to a first-ever study prepared by Columbia Basin College that compared its students' success rates with those from other two-year colleges. … CBC did score above average in several important categories. Thirty-six percent of full-time CBC students complete a degree or transfer to a university within three years, which puts CBC at number 21 out of 48 in the national ranking. It ranked eighth in college course completion in all subjects taken together. CBC students who transfer to Washington State University do very well.

Washington Bill Would Expand Reach of Western Governors U.

A state legislator is calling for Washington State to form a partnership with Western Governors University to allow students to more easily sign up for courses from the nonprofit online institution. Sen. Jim Kastama, a Democrat, plans to introduce a bill this week that would treat Western Governors as a Washington institution. Students could use state grants at the college, and they could transfer credits from the college to public institutions. “We have a huge unmet need for higher education, and this would address it without costing the state a penny,” Mr. Kastama said in a statement.
