EvCC gets $15,000 service learning grant
Everett Community College has received a three-year, $15,000 grant for sustainability education and service learning for students and faculty studying science, technology engineering and math. EvCC is one of 42 colleges and universities to receive grant funding from the Corporation for National and Community Service. The program host is Washington Campus Compact.

Indelible Ink: Poems by our readers
Each poem included 10 "challenge words": circle, expect, indelible, knot, lodge, poised, rock, storm, translucent, and watch. The words came to us from the librarians at Whatcom Community College in Bellingham, Wash., where their Kumquat Challenge is in its sixth year. Some of our poems were on display on April 27 at Whatcom's Kumquat Challenge reception.

‘Chop Suey’ pageant winner proudly represents multiculturalism
Crowned Miss Federal Way USA 2011 two months ago, Cady, 22, feels the nickname fits her multiracial ancestry — Hawaiian, Filipino, Chinese, Spanish, Irish, Scottish, Portuguese, and American Indian … Cady attends Highline Community College. Between 2008 and 2009, she was a leader of its Pacific Islander Club. She will receive her associate’s degree general studies this winter … and will then attend the University of Hawaii to earn a bachelor’s degree — possibly a master’s as well — in Hawaiian cultural studies …

Big Bend president offers 'State of the College'
Big Bend Community College President Bill Bonaudi painted a mixed view of the college's future during the school's annual State of the College address. In the address Bonaudi discussed the financial challenges facing the college and described strategies for dealing with them. He also celebrated the achievements of the college students.
