University of Washington, Bothell and Bellevue College to jointly enroll international students
The students will first complete two years of intensive study at Bellevue College, earning a two-year degree in business while also catching up with local students in their command of English and acquaintance with U.S. culture. Then they will transfer directly to UW-Bothell for another two years to earn a bachelor of arts in business.

$2-Billion Federal Program Could Be ‘Windfall’ for Open Online Learning
In other words, if a community college in Washington State gets a grant to build an aerospace program for workforce training, it would have to deposit all its digital stuff in an online library. Anybody who wants to use it would be able to download the content, and they would have full legal rights to reuse, revise, remix, or redistribute it, explained Cable Green, director of eLearning and open education at the Washington State Board for Community & Technical Colleges.

WSU branch hits snags, but isn't dead
...The mayor stirred them up with the controversial key to the deal: wresting control of the University Center of North Puget Sound out of the hands of Everett Community College and putting it in the grasp of WSU. … So jarring, the state Board of Community and Technical Colleges reacted with unusual swiftness to publicly denounce the proposal Thursday. The board and its executive director Charlie Earl -- a former Everett Community College president -- don't want a piece of its academic territory ceded to a four-year school in this fashion and are out to squash the effort before it gains traction.

National Spotlight on Washington State for Open Educational Resource
Depending on the course of study, textbooks can cost an additional $1,000 a year—a real burden for a lot of students. Recently, however, a lot of attention has been paid to ways technology can be used to reduce this expense. Specifically mentioned: Washington’s Open Course Library project as being the right way to go about open resources for students.

Truth Needle: Governor's job-loss projections half true
Estimates by the governor's budget office indicate the two-year college system has lost more than 1,000 full-time-equivalent (FTE) positions since 2009. However, the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges says the colleges lost about 250 full-time jobs during that period and expect to lose fewer than 200 FTEs in the coming fiscal year.

To prepare these future workers, the task force is recommending an integrated approach that would ensure affordability for students, accountability for taxpayers and a more stable funding formula for public universities.
