Teen dating violence seminar
October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, so Domestic Violence Services of Benton and Franklin Counties is hosting several events to raise awareness. Wednesday night both teens and adults were invited to talk about teen dating violence at Columbia Basin College.

Nationally recognized speaker talks about the role of parents in youth sports
Parents and coaches got some great advice Monday night from a nationally recognized expert on leadership for coaches, athletes, business leaders and parents.   Bruce Brown, who's the director of Proactive Coaching Corporation, spoke at Columbia Basin College about the role of parents in youth sports.

Two-year degrees on the rise

“Those who go to community colleges aren’t just students who want to transfer to a four- year university, but also people who are looking for technical skills,” [Copetas] said. “That’s how applications for community colleges can be bursting at the seams and applications for four-year baccalaureate universities may not be.”  Daniel Webber, a sophomore at Western, first went to Bellevue Community College and Renton Technical College before heading to Western. … At Whatcom Community College, enrollment has increased by about 24 percent in the last two or three years, said Chris Flack, associate registrar for the college.
